Preserving Lake Forest's Architectural Legacy Through Wearable Art: The Story Behind the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation Anniversary Silk Scarf Collection

When Art, Architecture, and Fashion Come Together

Historic preservation is about more than saving buildings.

It is about preserving stories, culture, craftsmanship, and the identity of a community for future generations.

This belief inspired a special collaboration between fashion designer and artist Alesia Chaika, founder of Alesia C. Fashion House, and the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation in celebration of the Foundation's 50th Anniversary.

Created as a collectible fundraising project, the exclusive collection of pure silk scarves and pocket squares transforms one of Lake Forest's most beloved architectural landmarks—Market Square—into wearable works of art.

The limited-edition accessories will be featured during the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation's "Preserved in Black and White" Gala Fundraiser on June 26, 2026, at the historic Rowan House in Lake Forest, Illinois, where Alesia Chaika is honored to participate as a sponsor and present her wearable art collection, Preserved in Silk™.

Preserving Architecture Through Art

The idea behind this project was simple yet meaningful:

How can we preserve and celebrate the beauty of Lake Forest's historic architecture in a way that people can enjoy every day?

The answer began with an original watercolor painting of Lake Forest Market Square created by renowned artist Glenn Vilppu.

Market Square is one of the most iconic landmarks in Lake Forest and one of the earliest planned shopping districts in the United States. For generations, it has served as the heart of the community—a place where architecture, commerce, and daily life come together.

Inspired by Glenn Vilppu's beautiful watercolor interpretation of Market Square, Alesia Chaika envisioned a way to transform this artwork into a timeless keepsake that would celebrate the Foundation's mission while supporting its future.

Through her signature Art-A-Porte® philosophy, she carefully translated the original painting into a luxury textile design suitable for fine silk production.

The result is a collection that preserves architecture through fashion.

From Watercolor Painting to Pure Silk

Many people see a finished scarf and admire its beauty.

Few realize the extensive design process that takes place behind the scenes.

Working from the original watercolor artwork, Alesia digitally reconstructed the composition, refined color transitions, adjusted scale, and adapted the painting specifically for luxury textile printing.

Every detail had to be considered:

  • Color balance
  • Scale of architectural elements
  • Placement of the artwork
  • Silk printing requirements
  • Fold visibility
  • Wearability
  • Collectibility

The goal was not simply to reproduce a painting.

The goal was to create a wearable piece of art that would maintain the spirit and beauty of Glenn Vilppu's original work while functioning as an elegant luxury accessory.

Crafted from the Finest Pure Silk

The anniversary scarves and pocket squares are produced using luxurious pure silk and finished with exquisite hand-rolled hems—a hallmark of luxury scarf craftsmanship.

The collection features soft blush-beige and pastel watercolor tones that create an elegant, timeless aesthetic suitable for both contemporary and classic wardrobes.

The result is a versatile accessory that can be worn for years while serving as a lasting reminder of Lake Forest's architectural heritage.

For collectors, preservation supporters, and art lovers, these pieces become much more than fashion accessories.

They become heirlooms.

WEAR it or FRAME it™

One of Alesia Chaika's signature philosophies is:

WEAR it or FRAME it™

The concept reflects the belief that art should not be confined to galleries and museum walls.

A beautiful silk scarf can be worn as a luxury accessory, displayed in a home, framed as artwork, or passed down through generations.

This philosophy makes the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation Anniversary Collection particularly meaningful.

Whether worn around the neck, styled on a handbag, displayed in an office, or framed as wall art, each piece continues to tell the story of Lake Forest and its architectural legacy.
